Data sources & licence

School Finder combines public data from several government sources, reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0. It contains public sector information licensed under that licence. Sources:

• Ofsted — school inspection judgements and outcomes.
• Get Information About Schools (Department for Education) — school details, status and locations.
• HM Land Registry — Price Paid Data (sold house prices).
• ONS Postcode Directory — postcode locations (contains OS & Royal Mail data © Crown copyright and database right).

School Finder is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ofsted, the Department for Education, HM Land Registry or the Office for National Statistics.

How ratings are shown

Ratings labelled “School Finder summary” are derived by us from Ofsted’s published category judgements and are not official Ofsted grades. Under Ofsted’s report-card framework each area is graded separately with no single overall grade; where a school has only an older inspection we show its overall effectiveness from that inspection, labelled as a legacy Ofsted grade.

House prices

Nearby prices are a neighbourhood indicator — the median of homes sold within a short radius of the school, from HM Land Registry. They are not a catchment measure and do not imply any link between school quality and house prices.

Accuracy

Data is cached and refreshed periodically, so figures may lag the official sources. School Finder is provided for general information only, with no warranty as to accuracy or completeness — always check the official source before making any decision that matters to you.
